Letter smooths the way on Bosnia talks
Article Abstract:
Lord Carrington will attend the international conference about the former Yugoslavia in London in Aug 1992 since he has received a letter of apology from Boutros Boutros-Ghali. The ceasefire did not work because none of the countries intended to keep it. Lord Carrington meets the leaders of the six republics which used to be Yugoslavia on Aug 14. The conference in London on Aug 26-28 with John Major and Mr Boutros-Ghali will emphasise the need to involve the UN.

A fig leaf for Major
Article Abstract:
UK prime minister John Major has managed to negotiate a deal with the European Union heads of government which allows the UK to export beef to non-European Union countries. However, any country wishing to purchase UK beef must first receive European Commission permission, and it is therefore likely that exports will only be very limited. Relations between the UK and the European Union remain extremely strained.
