Life with the Only Ones
Article Abstract:
Single-child families are becoming increasingly common in the western world. There are now 2.75 million single children in the UK, and two-parent families are now more likely to have only one child then ever before. Research indicates that only children may experience communication difficulties, as their social network is generally smaller than that of children who have siblings. They tend to be creative, possibly in order to make up for their loneliness. The lack of competition within the family can make them more unpredictable psychologically.

'Fairy tale' became a scramble for cash
Article Abstract:
Mandy Allwood, who is 18 weeks pregnant with eight babies, has already sold her story to a Sunday newspaper in a deal believed to be worth 350,000 pounds sterling. Sponsorship deals and television commercials could bring her 1 million pounds sterling. Some observers feel that she and her partner are exploiting the pregnancy in order to solve their financial difficulties. Her gynaecologist has warned that allowing the pregnancy to continue could place her in severe danger and that all the babies will probably die.

Skin disease second only to lung cancer
Article Abstract:
British people are becoming increasingly aware of the link between sun exposure and skin cancer, but are not prepared to abandon efforts to obtain a sun tan. Media images still present a sun tan as attractive and desirable, and many people feel that a sun tan gives them a sense of well-being. Skin cancer is now the second most common cancer in the UK after lung cancer, with around 2,000 people dying from skin cancer every year.
