Lionel Jospin and Tony Blair are both new socialists ... how can they stand so far apart?
Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair managed to capture the current political mood when he addressed the 1997 European Socialists' Congress in Malmo, Sweden. In contrast, new French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin was unable to stir up much enthusiasm among participants for his vision of the future. Many observers believe that Jospin's policy proposals look to the past, rather than the future, and this has become a cause for concern. Blair seemed to be taking care to distance himself from Jospin, and did not congratulate him on his speech.

Brussels barons fall on hard times
Article Abstract:

Member states will now seek to have greater control over developments within Europe.

Riddle of Serb exodus from Krajina
Article Abstract:
The flight of 150,000 civilian Serbs from Krajina as Croat forces invaded was the result of an order from the Krajina Serb leadership, according to the Croatian government. This view is supported by many western diplomats. However, the truth is probably much more complicated than this. It is now beginning to emerge that there was a large element of panic and fear behind the mass exodus.
