Lost the plot, lost her way
Article Abstract:
The Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, England, is currently staging an exhibition of works by Paula Rego. This covers 16 large pastel compositions based on 'The Sin of Father Amaro,' a 19th-century Portuguese novel by Eca de Queiros. The works have some attractive features, but are also disappointing in a number of ways. Some show very clearly that they are figure compositions set up in a studio, and the rendering of textures is not very convincing.

Article Abstract:
The Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, England, is currently staging an exhibition of the works of Dutch artist Pieter de Hooch, who lived from 1629 to 1684. This exhibition presents 40 of the around 170 paintings assigned to his name. The earliest, which feature drinking scenes, were painted when he was in his early 20s. His paintings most closely resemble those of Vermeer, although they are less enclosed and less mesmeric.
