Major Sir Patrick Wall

Politician and Marine officer Patrick Wall had a distinguished record during the second world war, and in 1945 won the Military Cross and was made a Member of the American Legion of Merit. He began to become interested in politics after the Labour party's victory in the 1945 general election. He became Conservative MP for Haltemprice, Hull, England, in 1954, and served this constituency until he retired in 1987. He was Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture between 1955 and 1957 and to the Chancellor of the Exchequer between 1958 and 1959.

Robert Woof

Mineworker and politician Robert Woof began working at Chopwell Colliery in County Durham, England, at the age of 14. He was elected to Durham County Council in 1947, and became an MP in 1956. He gained a strong reputation as a staunch defender of the coal industry, and his political activity reflected an important strand of society in the UK in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a defender of traditional left-wing values, but realized that the Labour party had to be prepared to change.

Son Sann
Article Abstract:
Politician Son Sann was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 1911. He studied at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Paris, France, before becoming Deputy Governor of the provinces of Battambang and Prey-Veng in 1035.
