Making Spielberg's gamble pay off
Article Abstract:
It will be difficult to find another film of the quality of 'Amistad,' according to actor Djimon Hounsou. He has received many offers as a result of his role in that film, and his life has changed dramatically from the period when he was living on the streets of Paris, France. He did not really believe that he would be successful in obtaining a role in 'Amistad,' but had a strong interest in the character, Cinque. He hopes that this film will educate people about certain aspects of the slave trade in the 19th century.

The gender bender
Article Abstract:
Actor Mathew Modine believes that the term actor is not gender-specific. He feels that some male actors are actresses, while many women feel that being described as an actress is demeaning. There have been a few times when Modine himself was an actress, including in 'Cutthroat Island.' He became frustrated at not being offered roles he considered sufficiently challenging, so has begun some directing work. His first film as director is 'If... Dog... Rabbit.'
