All airlines believe that there are benefits to be gained from running frequent-flyer schemes. In some cases, the overall number of passengers travelling rises, while in others travellers become bound to a particular airline and its services. Frequent-flyer schemes also benefit travellers, even those who do relatively little travelling. However, it is important to choose carefully between schemes, possibly joining several.
