Article Abstract:
Hal 9000, the intelligent computer portrayed in Arthur C. Clarke's novel '2001: A Space Odyssey,' had a significant impact on development in the relationship between men and machines. It became the basis for many later fictional computers, and also set the standard against which the development of technology in real life is measured. Some of the computer's abilities can now be matched by latest computers.
