Mensa racks its brains over who should succeed Sir Clive
Article Abstract:
The decision by Sir Clive Sinclair to resign as Mensa Chairman has created new difficulties for the society for people with high IQs. It had already been affected by conflict over the decision to remove Harold Gale from the position of executive director. Gale became very depressed and died in a car crash in Feb 1997. It had been claimed by the Mensa board that Gale was running a private business from the society's offices. However, director Brian Ford, who is now standing in the election for a new chairman, claims that Gale's activities were well known to senior Mensa officials.

Mensa fails the sexism test
Article Abstract:
Mensa, the society for the most intelligent people, has removed Julie Baxter, who was appointed its first female chairperson in Oct 1997, from her post. The official reason for this decision was that she had encouraged former chief executive Dave Chatten to circulate a critical newsletter about two fellow executive committee members. Baxter herself reports that some of the committee members are obsessed with Mensa and are keen on self-aggrandisement. She is determined to fight against the sexism that she believes was behind the decision to dismiss her.

Mensa's melee: the brains behind the backbiting
Article Abstract:
Mensa, the society for people with IQs of 148 or more, has always been characterised by internal feuds, with its members being prepared to argue about almost any issue. There is currently controversy about financial issues, with honorary secretary John McNulty having been suspended while investigations are made into claims of expenses irregularities. This atmosphere of constant tension and division is attributed to the fact that Mensa attracts rather unusual people.
