Police security operation will be biggest ever
Article Abstract:
It is estimated that around 6 million people will travel to the centre of London, England, for the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, on Sep 6, 1997. This will create considerable security problems, and there are plans to use more than 20,000 police officers to contain the crowd. There will be 80 police horses and their riders on standby to cope with any crowd problems as the coffin goes past, and the police will also operate emergency back-up units. There will be special protection for the many VIPs attending the funeral.

The Blair effect was there, but the sadness was real
Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's reaction to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, has closely reflected that of the general public. He has spoken of her as the People's Princess, implying that she was an ordinary person, rather than a member of a remote Royal Family. Blair has been extremely visible as arrangements have been made for her funeral, in sharp contrast to members of the Royal Family. However, it would be wrong to assume that he will use his support among ordinary people to push for modernization of the monarchy.
