Meredith Hawes
Article Abstract:
Artist Meredith Hawes studied at Croydon School of Art between 1922 and 1924. He then went to the Royal College of Art before becoming a teaching assistant at Bournemouth School of Art. He received a number of commissions, and became head of the design department at Derby College of Art. He then became vice-principal at the College of Art in Hull, England. He was appointed Principal of the Bournville School of Art and Crafts in Birmingham, England, in 1938 and Principal of Portsmouth College of Art in 1945.

Joseph Fereday
Article Abstract:
Artist and teacher Joseph Fereday was born in Dudley, England, in 1917. He studied at Wolverhampton College of Art, Birmingham College of Art and, after serving in the army during the second world war, at the Slade School in London, England. He became a lecturer at Portsmouth College of Art and Design in 1948.

Painter Joan Vernon-Cryer was born in Blackburn, England, in 1911. She studied at Blackburn Technical College, and was then admitted to the painting department at the Royal College of Art in London, England.
