More than bricks and mortar
Article Abstract:
The Tate Gallery in London, England, which opened in Jul 1897, has expanded considerably on the basis of the original gift of 65 paintings and two sculptures from art patron and businessman Sir Henry Tate. It now has a large collection of both British art and modern foreign art, and this has prompted the decision to create a Tate Gallery of Modern Art at the former Bankside power station on the south side of the Thames in London, England. The institution's collection could have been much more significant if a number of opportunities to purchase important works had been taken up.

Wanted: creative space
Article Abstract:
The 3,000 art students who leave London's art colleges every summer often find it very hard to obtain affordable studio space. London is seen as a world centre of art, but it offers little support to young artists. Developers often only want to let whole buildings, and students are being forced further and further away from the centre of London in order to find suitable studio space.
