Murdoch makes first move in the media wars of the new millennium
Article Abstract:
News Corp's Star TV, based in Hong Kong, has received permission to broadcast its Phoenix channel on a number of city cable stations in south China. Star TV will only have a small audience, but this is nevertheless a significant development. Television broadcasters are aware that the Chinese market offers very high potential revenues, and Rupert Murdoch was prepared to make substantial compromises to establish a presence in China. The Chinese administration is aware that the way it manages its relations with the media will have great international significance.

Making television a teen effort
Article Abstract:
Rapture is the first cable channel in the UK to cater exclusively for teenage television audiences. It has a very young production team, but this team works closely with more experienced staff from Anglia Television. Rapture's programme-makers do not earn very much, and have only very limited budgets. However, they are extremely enthusiastic, and feel that there are very good prospects for a channel focusing on an audience which other broadcasters largely ignore.
