Murdoch means business in Europe
Article Abstract:
Rupert Murdoch is very keen for News Corp to establish a presence in Europe, realizing that this will be vital element in his goal of creating a truly global media operation. He is currently discussing deals in Italy, Germany and Spain, looking at telecommunications, television and publishing. However, he is finding it hard to make real progress, especially as the xenophobic attitude of the Sun newspaper is well known in Europe. He has shown that he is willing to be persistent in order to achieve his aims.

Robinson's Granada decides against demerger

Executives at UK conglomerate Granada have decided that there would be no benefits to be gained from demerger, even though this is now a fashionable business strategy. Gerry Robinson, the company's chairman, is highly respected in the City of London, and this means that this decision will almost certainly not be challenged. However, few fund managers believe nowadays that common management skills can be used effectively across a diversified business operation.
