Must they do it on the road?
Article Abstract:
Caravan holidays are becoming more popular in the United Kingdom following a difficult period during the 1990s. The Caravan Club has 200 sites and is 90-years-old in 1997, with 285,000 members. Critics argue that caravans look unsightly when stored in gardens and cause congestion for other road users. Caravan Club members tend to be over 45-years-old and upper and middle class, with many lawyers, engineers and physicians. Caravans were first launched in the 1920s and were seen as the preserve of the wealthy. Caravans can cost from 6,000 pounds sterling to 25,000, and there is some snobbery among owners.
