My race? You can mark me down as multiracial
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly clear in the US that it is very hard to accurately classify people by race. This system, which has been in place in various forms since 1790, has been increasingly abused over recent years, and affirmative action and quotas have now become discredited. There are now many Americans who can only really be classified as multiracial, as they do not fall into any of the official categories. They include 1997 Masters winner Tiger Woods, whose ethnicity is made up of many different elements.

18 years of Tory rule? Sorry, I missed it
Article Abstract:
The UK seems to be on the point of electing a Labour government, having been ruled by the Conservative party since 1979. There have been significant changes since a Labour government was last in power. The UK has become a rougher, tougher country, with the traditional British reserve having largely disappeared. It is now characterized by divisions of wealth, rather than divisions of class. As in the US, the political spectrum has shifted towards the right, and few of the politicians of the 1970s remain active.

Even Canute would not try to hold back the tide of multiculturalism
Article Abstract:
Multiculturalism is becoming firmly established in the UK, and it will not be possible to reverse this trend. Race relations are fairly relaxed in the UK, in sharp contrast with the US, but there are still divided loyalties, as in many other countries across the world. It is now time to shift to a minimalist definition of statehood and to accept that developments such as the Internet and the creation of supranational institutions will accelerate the trend towards multiculturalism.
