New wave of fighting breaks out in code war
Article Abstract:
There is growing confusion about ownership of the rights to Java, the programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. Hewlett-Packard plans to create its own Java virtual machine, and Microsoft has now licensed this company's Java rather than that of Sun Microsystems for its Windows CE operating system. Competition between two different forms of Java could lead to falling prices for consumers, but incompatibilities could create considerable problems for developers and purchasers. Sun Microsystems is to investigate whether the Hewlett-Packard version of Java is legal according to the terms of the original licence.

The pen is mightier than the rock
Article Abstract:
Writer Lee Stringer, who spent 12 years on the streets of New York City, NY, as a crack addict, regards his new book, 'Grand Central Winter,' as a book about the 1980s, rather than a book about homelessness. He found that writing allowed him to deal with his homelessness and drug addiction in a constructive way, and that writing itself became addictive. He now equates writing to being touched by God. He does not feel any bitterness about his life on the street, and believes that his experiences have made him a good observer.
