No, Algeria, it's not an 'internal affair.' (need for international intervention in Algerian civil war)(Column)
Article Abstract:
It is now time for the Algerian government to stop regarding foreign intervention in its domestic affairs as interference. Algerian ministers should welcome the help being offered by United Nations representatives, and there should be an international outcry against routine disappearances and torture. It is natural that Algerians object to the moralist tone adopted by some observers in Europe and the US, but they should acknowledge that they now need international help.

Militias implicated in Algeria's reign of terror
Article Abstract:
Evidence is emerging that policemen and 'home guard' militia have been involved in the murder of civilians in Algeria. The newspaper Al Watan reports that 120 police officers are now imprisoned in Algiers, Algeria, charged with corruption, abuse of power, assault and theft. A number of members of the 'home guard' have been sentenced. Until now, the Algerian authorities have always blamed 'Islamists' for the massacre of civilians.
