Financial rollercoaster leaves the world feeling queasy
Article Abstract:
World stock prices have been affected by instability in financial markets in late Oct 1997, spreading from problems in Thailand. The extent to which markets have been hit varies widely. Hong Kong's stock exchange has seen record falls, and there has been speculation against the currency. There is concern that China could interpret this as a foreign conspiracy. Brazil has also been affected by sharp drops in stock prices, and could suffer from currency speculation.

Japan and Hong Kong add to global market misery
Article Abstract:
The weakening of stock markets in Asia is having international repercussions. There has been a particularly negative impact on shares in Latin American markets, with the Brazilian index, for example, losing more than 10% following a fall of almost 4% in Hong Kong share prices. It is now feared that falling asset values and declining confidence in the Far East will limit growth prospects in other parts of the world.
