Old rules are still the best to follow
Article Abstract:
The sharp fall on world stock markets that has taken place recently can be regarded as a clear example of the trend for markets to decline most dramatically immediately after they have risen very sharply. The current market correction was very unusual in that it was extensively predicted. The markets have lost all the gains they had made since the beginning of 1998, but it remains uncertain whether they will return to the levels of the beginning of 1997. It is likely that attention will now focus again on the actual profitability of companies, thus prompting further downrating in p/e ratios.

American tips worth noting
Article Abstract:
There are many different stock market tipsheets in the US. Some are of a high quality, but many are not, and in general tipsheets do not bring increased profits for investors. In general, there are few really good recommendations, but tipsheets continue to promise large benefits for investors. There are few pure tipsheets in the UK, but there is a long tradition of tipping shares in newspapers. Research indicates that newspaper tipsters are generally not as good as the best specialist newspapers at selecting the best stocks.
