On the crest of a new wave
Article Abstract:
The UK Arts Council has refused to contributed to the 135 million pounds sterling funding for Lord Rogers' planned Wave glass canopy for the South Bank Arts Centre in London, England, and this project has therefore had to be abandoned. Elliott Bernerd, the property developer now heading the board of the South Bank Centre, will put an alternative plan to Culture Minister Chris Smith. Particular attention will be given to the plan produced by Allies and Morrison, who are already responsible for the refurbishment of the Royal Festival Hall.

We're not on the crest of a wave
Article Abstract:
The UK Arts Council has decided that it cannot afford the 75 million pounds of lottery money required to go ahead with the planned 131 million pounds sterling refurbishment of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Hayward Gallery and the Purcell Hall on the South Bank in London, England. Culture Secretary Chris Smith must now see whether some elements of the scheme can be rescued. However, the prospects seem bleak, especially as this project has proved very sensitive politically.

Oh, what a lovely carve up!
Article Abstract:
Stoll Moss, headed by Australian millionairess Janet Holmes a Court, will lose control of two of its prime theatres in London, England, the Gielgud Theatre and the Queens Theatre, when its lease expires in 2006. Control of these theatres will pass to Sir Cameron Mackintosh, who made a bid of 15 million pounds sterling for the leasehold of them. Stoll Moss believes that it is impossible to obtain a return for what Mackintosh has paid to gain control of these theatres.
