SAP, where quality control pays off
Article Abstract:
German concern SAP, supplier of the extremely successful SAP business software package, has stated that it does not plan to become involved directly in consultancy or implementing the package. This will mean that the number of operators able to use SAP effectively will remain quite limited, and they will be able to demand high salaries. SAP is almost the only software company that does not allow independent companies to train people to use its product, according to training concern Learning Tree International.

Permies are the industry's poor relations
Article Abstract:
Information technology specialists in the UK can significantly increase their income by leaving their permanent job and working on a freelance basis. This is particularly the case if they have a skill for which there is great demand. Salaries for permanent information technology staff rose by only 4% in 1997, while contractors' incomes rose by 8%. The earning power of freelance information technology specialists is likely to continue to rise in 1998.
