Selection: the great divide
Article Abstract:
The UK Conservative party plans to establish grammar schools in every town if this is the wish of parents. However, there is evidence to suggest that most parents would not want a grammar school. The Labour party and the Liberal Democrats are opposed to selection in education, which is what would happen if grammar schools were set up in every town. The existing 161 grammar schools would be retained by a future Labour government if parents of children at feeder schools to grammar schools voted in favour.

Schools anxious over status in the new Labour order
Article Abstract:
The UK government has emphasized that education policy should focus on standards, rather than on the structure of the school system. However, structure has been a significant issue in the UK for many years, and it may prove very difficult for the government to divert attention away from it. School principals, local administrators and school governors fear that the government's new plans for structuring the school system could lead to even stronger distinctions between different types of schools.
