Orchestral manoeuvres in the park
Article Abstract:
Open-air classical music concerts have become extremely popular in the UK, even though the climate is not really suitable for such events. Experienced open-air concert goers take many pieces of equipment with them, as well as food and spare clothes. They arrive very early, and choose exactly where to sit according to the weather conditions. Members of the orchestra at open-air concerts also quickly learn what they will require, including clothes pegs to hold down their music when it is windy.

Twenty-first century vox
Article Abstract:
Three singing masterclasses run by the Britten-Pears School will form part of the programme for the 1999 Aldeburgh Festival. Tutors at these masterclasses include Phyllis Bryn-Julson and Ruth Drucker. Strong emphasis is placed on encouraging young singers to slow down and to make less noise. Drucker makes the students aware that the audience should be allowed to do their work for them, while Bryn-Julson states that the audience should be given time to assimilate each portion of singing.
