Article Abstract:
Retail sales of women's fragrances in the UK suffered a 3.2% drop in 1998 to some 418 million pounds sterling, with unit sales reaching around 2.41 million items in the same year. Between 1994 and 1998, women's fragrances have retained a substantial market, but not as dynamic as all other cosmetic and toiletries sectors. Several factors were behind such trend, including the preference of younger women to try other brands and the emergence of shrewder customers who buy products with demonstrable benefits.
