The UK should now look closely at its special relationship with the US, which has become unreliable and unpredictable. Particular attention must be given to how this relationship fits in with the UK's role in Europe. The special relationship has forced the UK to become involved in joint military action with the US against Iraq, even though this war has no clear immediate political consequences in the UK. It is now time for the UK to reconsider whether its foreign policy should be so heavily influenced by the US.

The European Parliament had been regarded as powerless, but it has been able to force the whole European Commission to resign.
