Out of small time may come big time

It can be very hard to establish a career as a filmmaker, according to actor, director and producer Shane Meadows. He had no choice but to use his friends in 'Small Time,' his debut feature film. This 60-minute film is extremely impressive, with a strong sense of pace and a great awareness of the realities of communal interaction. He worked extremely hard to teach himself filmmaking, and even went as far as to create his own short film festival in order to find an audience for his films. He is already planning his next four or five feature films.

Can he beat the rap?
Article Abstract:
Video maker Hype Williams has been extremely influential in making rap a visual as well as an audio medium. In 'Belly,' his first feature film, he has been able to expand his visual bravura. The film is weighed down by a cumbersome script containing many cliches. However, there is considerable beauty in this vivid saga of urban gangsterism. The film contains Williams's characteristic intensity of colour, and benefits from the fact that Williams used musical stars with whom he had already worked.
