Palestinians build their state on the shifting sands of corruption
Article Abstract:
The vast majority of ordinary Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip have not benefited materially from the Oslo peace accords. However, the leaders of the Palestinian Authority seem to have become extremely wealthy. They have the right to travel, unlike most Gazans, and have been able to derive benefit from the fact that goods and services supplied to Gaza must be negotiated with Israel, rather than bought and sold conventionally. Those controlling monopolies have become particularly wealthy.

Palestinians turn car theft into act of rebellion
Article Abstract:
The struggle between Israel and the Palestinians is partly reflected in the very high level of car theft in Israel. Those who steal cars are usually Palestinians, while the victims are usually Israeli. Car theft is particularly common in the Sharon area, north of Tel Aviv, Israel, which is near the Palestinian autonomous enclave at Tulkarm. The main reason for the very high level of car theft is that Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank are extremely poor.

Palestinians wait for war in ghost city
Article Abstract:
Many Palestinians believe that extensive violence will break out if Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat fails to obtain concrete results from the peace summit in Washington. There have already been 70 deaths and 1,200 woundings in recent violence, and the situation in towns such as Hebron is very tense, especially since the introduction of a 20-hour-a-day curfew. Palestinians in Hebron feel that the negotiations of the last three years have achieved nothing.
