Move off the high street
Article Abstract:
There is extremely strong competition between companies offering alternatives to traditional bank and building society mortgages in the UK. This means that some very attractive deals are being made available. In particular, new mortgage lenders are offering very high levels of flexibility. Borrowers are able to pay off the mortgage when they wish and to borrow against it when they need to. New types of mortgage are run in a very similar way to a current account.

Price war slims mortgage 'spread.' (United Kingdom mortgages set to become less competitive)
Article Abstract:
UK mortgages are likely to become less competitive in the short term. The mortgage price war has reduced the gap between lenders' savings rates and loan rates. However, this gap remains very narrow, with the slowdown in house prices adding a further negative factor. There is growing concern that lenders, faced with declining margins and reduced market share, are competing solely on the basis of marketing appeal. This could have negative repercussions for consumers.
