Q: What could this building in Strasbourg be? A: Another pleasure palace for our MEPs
Article Abstract:
The building currently under construction for the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, will cost 330 million pounds sterling. This follows investment of almost 650 million pounds sterling in another parliament building in Brussels, Belgium. Many observers feel that such large expenditure cannot be justified, especially at a time when the member states of the European Union are preparing for economic and monetary union. Indeed, some feel that the new buildings merely highlight the European Parliament's lack of power.

Israel searches for Golan lines of peace
Article Abstract:
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa was in Jerusalem to discuss the possibility of peace negotiations. Syria requires Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights. Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin has agreed to relinquish some ground, but has not specified how much. Phased agreements will have to be negotiated, which could take two years. Military strategists think the escarpment top facing west is the only line worth keeping. There is no view into Israel from the top of the western ridge.
