Rage springs again in Holy City
Article Abstract:
Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians over the issue of sovereignty in Jerusalem are being exacerbated by a dispute over the spring of Gahon. This is an ancient water source which runs through a 500-yard-long tunnel close to the Muslim and Jewish holy shrines of Temple Mount. The East Jerusalem Development company has posted armed guards at the mouth of the tunnel, and is now charging an entrance fee. This is being opposed by the Islamic authorities, which claim ownership of the site.

Saudi royals fear the wrath of the faithful
Article Abstract:
King Fahd announced reforms to media controls which may make little change to free expression in Saudi Arabia. The media is heavily censored. Most people listen to the BBC Arabic service, Monte Carlo, and Voice of America in Arabic, as local broadcasting is poor. Forty religious leaders have been banned from speaking in the mosques. The authorities tried to suppress a 'supergun tape' in which some Salafi accused the royal family of being anti-Islamic because wealth is anti-Islamic.

How Saddam kept deadly gas secret
Article Abstract:
Iraq succeeded with the assistance of German scientists in manufacturing the extremely lethal VX poison gas in a form which could be used in weapons at the end of 1987, according to General Wafiq al-Sammarai, former head of Iraqi military intelligence. This goes against official information from Iraq that it only produced XV gas in a laboratory. General Sammarai claims that Iraq had enough XV gas to put in 10 missile warheads, although he believes some have now been destroyed.
