Real life: an everyday story of risk management
Article Abstract:
Risk management is an integral element of everyday life. However, many people have a misguided view of what is risky and what is not. They take great care to protect their children from possible abduction by strangers, for example, when in fact children are at much greater risk of having an accident in the home than of being abducted by a stranger. In the modern world, many risks have the potential to affect vast numbers of people, with risks such as emissions from nuclear power plants transcending national and social barriers.

Article Abstract:
UK regional electricity supplier, Midlands Electricity, is looking to merge its supply arm with one or two of its rivals and become a national supplier. Midlands said it wants to complete the merger in 3 months to 12 months from mid-August 1998 and confirmed it is not interested in making a bid for London Electricity.
