An intelligent way to progress
Article Abstract:
Mixed views have been expressed about the theory of multiple intelligences, in which human beings are defined as being more or less intelligent in certain key capacities, including linguistic and musical. Some observers admit that this theory may have been beneficial to a certain degree in schools, but challenge its scientific basis and warn teachers not to take it too seriously. Supporters of theory argue that it is most useful when a specific educational goal has been defined. They also point out that it can play a valuable role in shifting attention away from mass teaching techniques.

Intelligence guru on a sticky wicket
Article Abstract:
It is possible to argue that psychologist Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI), which has been a driving force behind many school improvement schemes in the UK, actually has a number of negative aspects. He is right to encourage a shift away from the view that intelligence is what is tested in IQ tests, but his reasons for selecting alternative interpretations of intelligence are not necessarily very sound. School reformers should be wary about embracing his MI theory without question.

When leaders set out to conquer the world
Article Abstract:
The world's most effective political and social leaders have been those who have had the ability to create a story which affects the thoughts, feelings or actions of others. Research into effective leadership has tended to ignore the fact that leadership occurs in the human mind, with the most successful leaders embodying stories which already exist in culture in their own lives. They must tell stories which redefine the identity of the audience members if they are to gain full public support.
