Red rosette for the conviction candidate
Article Abstract:
Tony Blair, now the leader of the Labour party, began planning his parliamentary career in 1977. He made a number of attempts to become an MP, and finally got elected in 1983 as MP for Sedgefield, after a fierce struggle. The report about his employment and political past which he put to the selection committee in Sedgefield at that time makes some interesting generalisation and ommission, however, and these are now being used against him. He has left himself open to allegations of hypocrisy, and is now trying to change a party to for which he expressed great loyalty in order to get himself elected.

When little brother took over
Article Abstract:
The strong friendship between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown was severely tested in 1994 when the former was strongly backed as the new leader of the Labour party. Until then, Brown was always the dominant partner in the friendship, and Blair was very much in awe of him. Some observers believe that Brown's withdrawal from the leadership contest left Blair with an obligation to him which may hamper him in the future, and Brown certainly retains a very strong position in the party.
