Redwood warning to closet gays
Article Abstract:
John Redwood, who is challenging prime minister John Major for the leadership of the Conservative party, has come under pressure over his plans to make checks on the private lives of government ministers. He has said that he would ask homosexuals if they would face 'embarrassment' if he appointed them, but has denied that they would be obliged to 'come out' or be barred from the top political jobs. He has stated a clear intention to move away from the sex and financial scandals which have been haunting the party.

Espionage mystery as riddle of sunken trawler unravels
Article Abstract:
The UK government has agreed to fund an underwater survey which could finally establish the cause of the sinking of the trawler 'Gaul' in 1974. Relatives of the 36 crew members who died in the incident believe that the trawler could have been on a spying mission and was sunk by a Soviet torpedo. Previous administrations have denied that trawlers were used for spying, but the current government has admitted that the real circumstances surrounding the sinking of 'Gaul' have been concealed.
