Reformer Nouri faces a trial that could change Iran
Article Abstract:
Former Iranian Interior Minister Abdollah Nouri, one of the key figures in the reform movement sparked off in Iran with the election of President Mohammad Khatami in 1997, is due to stand trial on a number of charges, including insulting the prophet Mohammed and defaming Ayatollah Khomeini, leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution. He has warned the country's conservative mullahs that the only way to silence him will be to imprison him. The conservatives still control key areas of power, including television and the courts, even though Khatami has popular support.

Turkish Cypriots celebrate 25 years behind Green Line
Article Abstract:
Turkish Northern Cyprus is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the invasion that split Cyprus between its Greek and Turkish communities. In contrast, the Greek-Cypriots are holding rallies to protest against the anniversary. The Greek-Cypriot government will not accept partition, and continues to claim sovereignty over the entire island. However, Turkey is making it clear that it remains committed to Northern Cyprus.
