Automating many retail functions through the use of computers is becoming widespread. However, before a hardware retailer purchases a computer system for his business, there are many considerations. For example, while microcomputers are popular now and can perform simple accounting tasks, they are limited in providing management decision support. Before purchasing a computer, the retailer should systematically analyze his business and its goals.
