Return of the Native
Article Abstract:
Guitarist and songwriter Robbie Robertson is keen to emphasize that the music on his new album 'Contact From The Underworld Of Redboy' differs considerably from the soundtrack for the television documentary 'The Native Americans,' even though both use Native American sounds. His aim was to make the album reflective of him personally, rather than working within the limitations of a documentary. However, he took care to consult some of the Six Nations chiefs about approaches to using Native sounds.

Blues? I don't play no blues!
Article Abstract:
The members of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion deny that they play blues music. They feel drawn to a raw form of blues, rejecting the very constrained type of blues music played in the late 1960s. They feel that the songs on their new album, 'Acme,' are closer to rock and roll than to blues. The only element they really take from the blues is that they play from what they know, avoiding any form of pretence. They try to create a unique sound, rather than emulating any particular musical form.
