Riposte
Article Abstract:
There have been some unusually severe attacks on theatre critics recently, in particular in an article written for the New Statesman by director Michael Bogdanov. There has even been tension between critics, with London critics being accused of taking a softer line than their US counterparts. It is vital that the theatre industry remembers that critics are writing for readers, rather than for the industry itself, and that they therefore have a duty to condemn productions sometime.

Who is the third who walks always beside you?
Article Abstract:
Wilton's Music Hall in London, England, is an ideal venue for Deborah Warner's production of T.S. Eliot's poem 'Waste Land.' The Thames flows through the poem, and also flows close to this building. The poem has a love-hate relationship with London, and this is set to give it an even greater impact than it has had in other cities. The solo performance by Fiona Shaw is extremely impressive, containing constant surprises of truth and originality.
