Royal retreat in search of new way forward
Article Abstract:
There are ambitious plans to develop the 55,000-acre Balmoral estate in Scotland, which is owned by the Queen. It is hoped to plant almost 600 acres of new forest, funded by grants totalling around 250,000 pounds sterling, and other conservation work is planned. The scheme, which aims primarily to create wildlife habitat, will require the approval of the government's Forestry Authority. Some elements could attract controversy, especially putting up fencing to prevent red deer eating and killing young trees.
