Road rage
Article Abstract:
There are now around 100 anti-road protesters living in tree houses built in the path of the planned bypass road around the town of Newbury, England. They have also built a network of tunnels in the hillsides as an additional means of defence. They have been preparing for this battle for several months, and have accumulated many supplies. The protesters are determined to make the contractors' work extremely hard, and have been attracting support from across the country.

Minefield plague was legacy of war for France
Article Abstract:
There were more than 13 million landmines planted in France by the end of the second world war, most of which were cleared by German prisoners of war. They were offered very little equipment or training, and up to 20,000 died while involved in mine clearing work, according to a recent television report. The use of German prisoners was felt to be justified at the time, as the Germans had most experience of how the mines were laid initially.
