Personal equity plans can be a good way of saving, as they offer considerable flexibility, allowing the holder to realize the value of the investment at the most appropriate time. However, equity-based personal equity plans are intended to run for at least five years, and should not be used as a repository for short-term savings.

When this happens, their only realistic option is to try to reduce their expenditure. Students often find that they will have to continue paying off their debts for several years after they begin full-time employment.

It is important to secure diversification, possibly by using a company which has multiple fund management links.
