Scott on trial: the case for the defence
Article Abstract:
There has been considerable criticism of the methods used in the Scott inquiry into arms to Iraq, especially of how witnesses were treated. This criticism is misguided, as it is based on flawed understanding of the role and operating methods of the inquiry. The inquiry has been largely undertaken on paper, with public hearings playing a relatively small role. Only a small amount of time out of the overall inquiry has been spent hearing witnesses, and all witnesses have been given the opportunity to correct their evidence.

A camera obscured
Article Abstract:
The murder of Argentinian photo-journalist Jose Luis Cabezas in Jan 1997 has led to great public outrage. For many people, the brutal murder is very reminiscent of the time when opponents of the country's military regime simply disappeared. There is also concern about the possible involvement in the murder of Alfredo Yabran, the most wealthy and influential businessman in Argentina. He has been the subject of investigations by Noticias, the news magazine for which Cabezas worked.
