Seeds, bulbs and plants
Article Abstract:
The market for live plants, seeds and bulbs has grown by 18% from 1992 to 1997. These products account for 29% of consumer expenditure on gardening. However, their share of spending is gradually declining. A reason for this decline is the decrease in the number of people who practice growing plants from seed and people who grow vegetables and fruit. Moreover, there is also a shift to ornamentals and the leisure-dominated use of the garden. Plants, seeds and bulbs are predicted to gradually lose their share of the total garden products market.
