There's a crush at the Bar, let's leave
Article Abstract:
It is believe that the abolition of the Inns of Court School of Law's monopoly over the Bar Vocational Course, which will allow other institution to teach the course from 1997, will lead to the number of places for trainee barristers doubling. This will make it much harder than it already is to obtain a pupillage or tenancy, and comes at a time when one in three trainee barristers already fail to be taken on as a tenant in chambers. People who fail to complete the course will still face very high living and tuition expenses.

Pressing the buttons for a banking revolution
Article Abstract:
The UK's leading banks are now offering a range of options for 'telebanking' services. Some customers are already able to use a PC or a telephone with a special screen to access details of their bank account, with transactions and services available varying from bank to bank. The banks are now looking at services which will appeal to as many customers as possible, rather than those which are only suitable for customers which can afford to pay for them. However, many people remain suspicious about automated systems.
