Smokers face threat of injunctions and American-style prohibition

Article Abstract:

The UK's Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) movement has received legal advice which indicates that people who work in environments where smoking is common, such as restaurants and pubs, have the right to take legal action against their employers. ASH believes that significant changes could take place in the way smoking at work is seen, and that there could soon be a trend towards non-smoking pubs, bars and restaurants. The Health and Safety Executive has said that it will examine the scientific and medical evidence on environmental tobacco smoke.

Farming 'a danger to health.'(health hazards involved in modern farming)

Article Abstract:

Compassion in World Farming, an animal welfare organization, argues in a report that modern farming methods present health hazards. Chicken may contain salmonella bacteria, and beefburgers may contain E coli, the rpeort claims. The usage of antibiotics to control bacteria on farms is dangerous because bacteria can then mutate and resistant forms can emerge. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom government is not able to state the risk level of eating beef products during the peak of the epidemic of mad cow disease.
