So, where are Mr Wardle's immigrants?
Article Abstract:
Charles Wardle, who recently resigned as Home Office Minister, was correct in stating that Europe attracts large numbers of economic migrants, particularly from central and eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Most have gone to Germany, which has become the main arrival point for people from central and eastern Europe and those escaping the war in former Yugoslavia. However, Mr Wardle was incorrect to say that many economic migrants will enter the UK if it drops passport controls. The UK does not offer particularly attractive welfare benefits, and most migrants will prefer to remain in areas where their families and communities are already established.

A nation is splitting apart - will anyone notice?
Article Abstract:
The forthcoming national elections in Belgium will start the process of dismantling the concept of Belgium as a nation state. The country's population is made up of 60% Flemish speakers and 40% French speakers, and the two communities have been gradually growing apart over recent years. Each community has its own political parties and institutions, and the only real unifying factor is the Royal family. At the forthcoming elections, voting will take place within a new federal policy, creating new elected assemblies.

Be a rock and listen
Article Abstract:
Many people do not know how to cope with a member of their family, a colleague or a friend who has a serious and potentially terminal illness. They may express sympathy and concern, but this is often interpreted incorrectly by the ill person. It is important always to be guided by the feelings of the ill person, recognising that everyone copes with illness in different ways and therefore has different needs. Friends must offer support, rather than focusing on their own feelings.
