Someone out there knows everything about your life...
Article Abstract:
Background investigation databases are now widely used by employers in the US to gain information about potential employees. It has become increasingly easy to access such databases through the Internet, and this has led to growing concerns about the possible abuse of sensitive personal information. A number of privacy bills have been introduced in Congress, but it is uncertain whether they will ever become law. Some observers fear that those who have technological capabilities will soon be able to wield great power over those who do not.

The pinstriped revolutionary
Article Abstract:
The European Convention on Human Rights is an extremely significant piece of legislation, according to barrister Geoffrey Robertson. He is particularly keen to ensure that the individual's right to privacy becomes enshrined in UK law. However, he believes that hypocrisy in politicians should always be exposed. He acknowledges that it may prove very difficult in practice to implement a privacy law, and accepts that censorship laws relating to children are very arbitrary in nature.

Why the PCC got it wrong on Anna
Article Abstract:
The UK Press Complaints Commission's ruling that the Daily Mail did not invade newsreader Anna Ford's privacy when it printed photographs taken with a long lens of her on a beach while on holiday is discussed. It is argued that only members of the Royal Family appear to benefit from the full protection of the commission's code.
