Sorry, lady, you just ain't the part
Article Abstract:
A number of UK actresses have been disappointed that Hollywood appears to ignore good UK theatrical actresses in favour of US film actresses when adapting dramas into films. The main reason for the US attitude is money, as audiences are attracted by famous names. Even UK film stars take work which might have been expected to go to Americans, because of their fame and star qualities. It is however, apparently somewhat unfair that when a part has been created by a particular actress or actor they cannot enjoy the part when it is adapted to film.

National rocks the boat over plans to bar musicals from hall of fame
Article Abstract:
The National Theatre will not include musicals in its exercise to stage excerpts from the 100 most important plays of the 20th century throughout 1999. This decision has been greeted with surprise, particularly as three musicals have been among the most highly respected productions the National Theatre has ever staged. Furthermore, National Theatre Artistic Director Trevor Nunn has previously stated that he is opposed to distinctions between musicals and other forms of theatre.
