Soundbites, hypocrisy and the truth about the tax burden
Article Abstract:
Tax has become a significant political issue again in the UK following the admission by Prime Minister Tony Blair that the tax burden will rise over the current parliament. The Conservative party is misguided in attacking the government on this issue, especially as the tax burden rose over the 18 years of Conservative rule. Furthermore, the tax burden was predicted to rise further if the Conservatives had won the last general election. However, this does not mean that the issue of tax can be dismissed. The Labour party should begin to define its arguments about tax, rather than allowing this matter to be seized by the Conservatives.
